                       MAY 17TH - 18TH

Unfortunately, the SCR curse struck again this
meeting, with three out of the four cars we had there
breaking in some way or other.

First up was my brother welsh Paul, and his Pontiac
powered Viva estate, who managed to pop yet another
head gasket this season. We've heard now that he has a
continuous order of head gaskets coming over from
Summit Racing. Thats three meetings this season and
only three runs.

Next up is Trevor Powell with his 1978 Dodge D100 ,who
on his first run of the season managed to break his
gearbox, leaving him with just reverse gear.Yet another
SCR car being taken home by those nice men from the
RAC.

The third unfortunate member of SCR is John
Sargeant, with his Pontiac powered gassed Viva who
managed to make it to the sunday, but on his second run
of the day ,while doing over 100 mph at the top end had
the misfortune of seeing his bonnet blow off, smashing
his windscreen in the process and flying up in the air
and he still managed to run a time of 11.9 @ 107mph (see
pics opposite). We think someone unfortunately left one
of the bonnet pins out,but we are not going to mention
any names.

Thankfully we did have one vehicle that lasted the
weekend, which was Asley Coopers blown small block
chevy powered transit van.
This was the first time out for nearly two and a half years
for Ashley who was very pleased by the end of the
weekend running a best time of 13.26 @103mph on
treaded tyres, and we know there's plenty more left in the
van.

We'd also like to welcome the two newsest members
to SCR who are Wendy Strikkson and her daughter
Joey.Wendy as most of you know does the disco for a
lot of the meetings at shakespeare county
raceway, and Joey has run at a few meetings in her
stock Ford Anglia.
The Yanks weekend turned out to be a very good meeting for some
of the members of SCR,with six cars turning out.

I finally managed to get my Lotus back to the track, and although
with a new back end set up did'nt get the times I was looking
for,(maybe it was because I made a few cock ups on the startline, like
doing another burnout through the lights, and not realising my
fanbelt had come off, leaving me with a flat battery),I was still very
happy to be racing again. I finally managed to post a weekends best
of 13.6 @104mph,which is still nearly a half a second off my best
time. Hopefully we will be able to sort out my startline  gremlins at
the next T+T in a couple of weeks.

Also there at the weekend was steady Dave Molyneux in his rover
powered gassed Cresta. After a bad first run,he kept putting in mid
to high 13s with a best of 13.7 @94mph.

Ashley Cooper once again fetched his Blown BBC Transit to
Shakey, and after having a couple of 12.9s,posted another PB of 12.6
@108mph.(Surely if he keeps getting faster,it wont be long before
we see that big old yellow Bedford of Wobbly Bobs back at the
track).(well done Ash)

Another car which we had'nt seen for a while was Colin Bannisters
Chevy Camaro, and although there is no blower on it at the
moment,he managed to run a fastest ever unblown time of 14.7
@94mph.(Nice to see the Camaro back Colin.)

One of the newer members of SCR,Paul Orchard, finally brought
his BBC powered Pontiac Bonneville, and after a few 13 second
runs, kept posting better and better times, ending up with an
excellent time of 12.1s @110 mph(well done Paul).

Now unfortunately for my brother Welsh Paul he managed to keep
up his record of having just one run at every meeting this season.
Thankfully it was'nt any headgaskets blowing this time,he was
suffering from carb problems, as he did'nt have enough time to sort
it out at home as he was too busy getting my car ready for the track.
(I'd just like to say a very big thanks to him, as there was no way I
could have done it myself).
YANKS WEEKEND/GARYS PICNIC
        MAY 31ST/JUNE 1ST
What was supposed to be a total washout with plenty of rain forecast, this
weekends test and tune had the best weather there all season.

Unfortunately,as I was racing all weekend I did'nt have time to take any
photographs.

As for the cars of SCR,it turned out to be a very good weekend for a few of them.I
myself ,had a very good weekend, even though i trashed my slicks on the
saturday,I managed to get another pair for the sunday, getting in 16 runs
culminating in a best time of 13.39@107mph.not the 12 second run I was hoping
for ,but the second best time I have run,and hopefully i will get a new carb put on
to stop my startline trouble.

As for Ashley Cooper and his blown transit,it was yet another great
weekend, posting a time of 12.4 on the saturday and going even better on the
sunday,finally getting a very impresive 12.3@109mph.

Well what can I say about my brother Welsh Paul, who so far has only been able
to get in one run per meeting .Hoping for a better weekend this time,he was
dissapointed to find the viva misfiring at  about 5000 revs. After a day and a half of
changing things from the msd to the carb and endless other parts, finally
managed to get in an excellent run of 9.97@137mph.(congratulations Paul on
finally getting into the nines).

Paul Orchard once again brought his Chevy powerred Pontiac Bonneville on
sunday ,posting a weekends best of 13.4 before he lost oil pressure and decided
to call it quits for the day.
